People of African Descent have been a part of Spotsylvania's narrative since European Colonization, yet the contributions of African Americans in the growth and development of the county has often been obscured and overlooked; until now.
In observance of the John J. Wright Educational & Cultural Center Museum's eighth anniversary and the anniversary opening of the 2015 African American Heritage Trail (AAHT), the museum is pleased to honor the many who have fought in every battle in Americas fight for democracy, and their courageous journey through established barriers of slavery, Jim Crow Laws, prejudice, and segregation.
This year is the 150th Anniversary of the 14th Amendment. A Colourful Journey provides a wonderful opportunity to explore where the community has been and offers the opportunity for participants and visitors alike, to be engaged in dialog and to become a vital part in sharing Americas colourful history.
